Fraser Island Adventure

Fraser Island Adventure

The Butchulla people called this island K’gari, meaning ‘paradise’ and it is simple to see why. As the largest sand island in the world with a veritable mosaic of landscapes including endless beaches, tall rainforests, sand blows and dune lakes, the World Heritage Listed site of K’gari (Fraser Island) packs every kind of adventurers’ punch.

The other-worldly, azure beauty of Lake McKenzie is perhaps the most instagrammed lake in Australia. The dramatic change between pockets of rainforest with crystal clear streams to eucalypt forests and scrubby woodlands, all within a few hundred metres, is almost inconceivable. The sheer volume of water cascading out of the pristine and fresh water Eli Creek straight across the sand and out to the ocean will delight you. Pippis making their little humps on the low tide beach, dingoes loitering in the dunes, enough birdlife to twitterpate any twitcher, whales, dolphins, rays, turtles and every kind of marine life viewable from the shore or perhaps on top of a windswept headland… K’gari is a true natural paradise.

Just an hour’s trip (tide dependent) along the Great Ocean Drive through the Great Sandy National Park and its beautifully coloured beaches of Teewah (visible from Tingirana’s beachfront balconies) and Double Island Point, K’gari is accessible as a day trip with one of a number of local tour operators. Please speak to our friendly staff about a tour to suit your needs, from a private car and guide to a more sociable tour bus affair.
